150 years after the much acclaimed Civil War, which was the bloody War Between the States, many people are still arrogantly divided over what transcribed in the war and how it came about. Unfortunately, ever since the war has ended people still quarrel over who was right and who was wrong and who started the war. While all of this fighting and quarrelling was going on in 1861, General Robert E. Lee, a predominant leader in the American Army, was asked to lead the Union forces against who the North called “Rebels”. “Everything that I have been and where I am from, I cannot turn against”. “Despite my love for this country, I cannot fight against my fellow Virginians. So he resigned as general of the Union forces and became the Commander of the Confederate forces in Virginia. This is a great example of the division and conflict during this time.
Unfortunately, the cause of the division and conflict between the States was the issue of slavery. Slaves, who were mostly Africans, were used in the South as workers for cotton farmers. When slaves were taken away or lacking, the industrious South would lose its profit and import. Saying this, let’s get back to the details on the conflict with the people. Throughout the whole North, as the war went on, people were trying to push their beliefs by force on the Southerners. This was wrong because it showed that they were very prideful and did not try to bring them along in a Christian way. This was the great problem of both north and south, they were to prideful to come to an agreement about any of their issues. We should keep this in mind when we come to this type of crossroads.
