The Evitable War

The question I was asked for this writing assignment was “Do you think the Civil War was inevitable?”    My honest answer is yes, I do believe that it could have been prevented if the greed and lust of the hearts of man were not so predominant in America at this time frame in history.

Primarily, the Civil War began due to the differences in the North and South over the issue of slavery.  The people in the South just wanted what they wanted most: money.  The South was a huge export of cotton for big countries in Europe, such as England and France.  So, the South made big dollars from selling all of their cotton that they grew on huge plantations.  As I said before, slavery was a huge issue in this war that was in the states.

The war could also have been prevented if the people would have just come to a compromise or if they would have given up their selfish motives and think about how others would feel if this war went on.  The Northern part of the country was just as bad as the Southern half.  They wanted to abolish slavery by force and not by legal or negotiate standards.  Also, some in the North even did not take kindly to slaves who ran away from their masters.  Many shunned them from staying in their homes when they came to the door to ask for a place to stay the night.  So in a way, both sides were not different from one another and would not try to negotiate the issues facing them.  This is how the Civil War could have been prevented, if either side would not have been so selfish, their probably would not have been a war or a secession of states.

So my final answer to this question is yes, I do believe that the Civil War could have been prevented by negotiating peace and giving up selfish attitudes towards one another.
